Project Description: We converted an 18’ x 23’ bedroom with a beautiful fireplace with the original marble mantle into a formal dressing lounge. This elegant dressing lounge includes an 8’ island with banquette curved seating with custom upholstery, (9) drawers and (1) large oversized jewelry drawer with a glass top. The Murray Feiss crystal chandelier really makes the room sparkle. The island also includes one hidden pull-out bar section. There are four wardrobe cabinets with four custom pilasters that serve as hidden storage for accessories (i.e. ties, belts, jewelry and evening handbags, etc.) The cabinets are 12’ high so the motorized pull-down rod was a great feature for double hanging. To accentuate the heavy crown moldings we added decorative carved ornaments with LED accent lights. There are a total of 17 drawers. All dovetail drawer boxes. In addition to the wardrobes and hidden pull-outs we also transformed the bedroom reach-in closet into a shoe carousel and an oversized hamper below and a space for a flat screen TV. There is also a hidden jewelry safe in one of the wall panels. To add a spectacular sparkle to this elegant dressing lounge our faux finisher added a beautiful silver leaf pattern inspired by “Pietre Dure” design to give the look of hard stone inlay. Then the 10’ x 12’ space was embellished with 100 Swarovski crystals. There are just so many details and features we had to include a video. Total 35 linear feet.

Project Description: This home addition called for a new master suite, bathroom and walk-in closet. We designed a 7′ peninsula to create a true “His” side and “Her” side so they can both feel as if they have their individual walk-in closets. The peninsula one side had drawers and cubbies for his side and for her side the peninsula housed her shoes and long hanging. We created a vanity top with a granite top for her and ample drawers to compensate for bedroom dressers or furniture. Accessories included tie/belt racks, valet rods, hooks, hampers and an custom oversized framed full-length mirror.

Project Construction Details: New construction so we designed the peninsula to serve as a wall to separate sides. All units installed to ceiling height with crown and base molding throughout the entire closet.

Turn That Spare Room Into a Walk-in Closet

If you’ve ever feuded with a spouse over hanger space or drawers, or turned your house upside down trying to find the summer clothes you stashed last fall, you might be a prime candidate for a closet conversion.

Turning a spare room into a walk-in closet is not a huge task, and it can reap instant rewards. “People want all their stuff in one space,” says Angel Martin, co-owner and senior design consultant at Affordable Closets Plus in Bangor, Pennsylvania. Martin’s firm is one of countless companies that will quiz you on your needs, measure your space and install a spacious walk-in closet in what was once a spare bedroom, a nursery or that home gym you swore you’d use but somehow never did.

You can also opt to do the project yourself, using materials from a hardware or home improvement store. Which method you choose will depend on your needs, your budget and the kind of look you want to achieve.
